I’ve been having a ton of fun making these crochet mason jar cozies and toppers.  I adore homemade goodies.  So much time and love goes into their preparation, and they deserve to be presented in way that honors that. I think these cozies are the perfect choice.

The first ones I did were flowers!!! They’re so simple, bright and pretty.  They work up fast and look stunning in a basket. Follow the link below to check them out.

But I know why you’re really here. For these ADORABLE GNOME COZIES!!!

I seem to always say that my most recent project is my favorite… well it is.  THESE ARE MY FAVORITE.  I can’t wait to make some for Christmas presents. Just fill the jars with whatever goodies you please.  Preserves, candy, maybe one of those cool fairy garden light crafts, granola, mixed nuts!  There are just so many options for anyone on your list.

You don’t even really need the mason jar but it won’t be as stable without it.

The Yarn

This pattern is made with standard acrylic yarn.  I used Craft Value Yarn, or Bernat Super Saver.   I think it’s Red Heart yarn that tends to be on the thicker side so I do encourage you to check your gauge.

Materials you’ll need:

  • Craft Value Yarn in white, red, and peach
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Darning Needle
  • Scissors
  • Either Half-Pint or Pint Mason Jars

Gauge:   8sts and 9 rows in 2”

Sizes:  This pattern is for half-pint and pint-sized mason jars.  The 4.5mm hook is used to make half-pint size and the 5mm hook is used to make the larger pint size gnome

Notes:  Always start the first stitch of the round in the same st as the chain. This pattern is written in US terms.

Beard Both Sizes

Cut 21 – 8 inch strands of white yarn.

Take 3 strands of yarn.  Fold them in half.  Using your crochet hook, fasten them onto one of the noses stitches.

Repeat for all strands.

Use a comb to brush out the yarn.  I use the fluff pulled out from the comb to stuff the nose with.  If you don’t have much, just stuff the nose with some stuffing and then sew onto the cozy.   Trim the bottom of the beard.

Pom Pom:

I like using a fork for small pompoms.

First cut a 12 in strand of yarn and set it in the center of the fork tines.

Now wrap yarn around the fork until you have a nice thick ball.

Pull up the sides of the 12” strand and pull as tight as possible.  Knot it.  Feed one strand through to the other side. Pull tight, knot it again.

Sew, or glue gun it onto the hat aaaaaand……

You’re done!!! I hope you love this little guy as much as I do.
