3D Christmas Ornament Craft

You only need a few easy to find craft materials to make this 3D, eye-grabbing, sparkly Christmas ornament art is craft.

It’s great for all ages.  So simple for the little ones but wonderful results. I love craft projects like that!

I was able to get everything at the Dollarstore.   They had a really nice pack of glitter with 12 different colors which gave us a ton of fun options.  You could make a small one with two or three ornaments, or go big and get a large canvas to fill up.  You can’t go wrong.

Materials Needed:

  • Styrofoam balls
  • Glitter
  • School Glue
  • A Sharpie or pieces of yarn or string to make the ornament strings
  • Scissors for the string
  • A Ruler
  • A Craft Canvas
  • Paint Brushes
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (optional)
  • Toothpicks

How to make your 3D ornament art!

Step 1:  Have an adult cut the Styrofoam balls in half with a bread knife.  It’s a bit messy… but worth it!

Step 2:  Stick a toothpick into the flat side of the cut ball.  You can hold on to this toothpick to glue and glitter your ornament easier.

Step 3:  Brush glue onto the half-ball and cover with beautiful glitter!

Step 4:  Decide where you would like to place the ornaments on the canvas.  Paint a background if desired.  With the sharpie, draw on the strings and bows.  OR, cut some strands of yarn for the strings, make some cute little bows and glue them on.

Step 5:  Next, glue your ornaments onto the canvas.  I prefer to use a glue gun but school glue would probably work, just make sure it stays laid down to dry overnight.

Step 6:  Hang your bright and jolly 3D ornament picture and admire!

We’re going to hang ours over the fireplace when the other kids have made theirs. But I think they would look lovely anywhere.

This would be a beautiful class project.  Simple materials but really lovely results.  You could make bowls of glitter the children could dip their balls into instead of sprinkling.  That would make sure their ornaments are nicely covered in glitter but minimize the mess… though your class will likely spread glitter joy to the rest of the school no matter what you do.
