Powerhouse Dandelion Petal and Spirulina Ice Cubes

I need to make a ton of these so I have some year round!  I have noticed such great benefits for myself just over the last month of consuming them.

These ice cubes encourage me to drink more water, are my favorite colour :), and give me a much needed boost.  My eyes constantly feel stressed and tired, but these have given them some relief!  I’m sure it’s due to the high levels of beta carotene.  After 5 children, a rough miscarriage, and dealing with the many challenges life throws at you, I couldn’t be more exhausted.

Okay, and my mad sweet tooth doesn’t help matters either… 😆. I’m sure I’m nutrient deficient. I need to eat more salads!  Which is also why I made up some spirulina ice cubes too!

Drinking these is the perfect, enjoyable way for me to get some much needed vitamins and minerals.  I can sneak some to the kids too.  The flavor is so mild, they barely notice.  Put it in an opaque cup and see if they can tell.

They’re great to throw in smoothies, lemonade or other summer drinks.

And they’re so cheap and simple!  Just collect your dandelions, harvest the petals, wash them, blend them up with water in the blender and freeze them…

Its grows FREE in your backyard. It’s sad how we pay so much for super processed, altered, ineffective vitamins when we have so many growing in the back yard.  Too many people are just too tired and busy to find the time to even gather some flowers.  😥💚

Health benefits

My eyes have notably changed over the years. They most often feel strained, and so tired.  But after drinking these I felt a change!  And it makes sense because dandelion flowers are loaded with beta-carotene.  In the body, beta-carotene is transformed into vitamin A, which is needed by the body to support healthy vision, immunity, cell division, and other functions.

Apparently dandelion contains half of the Mendeleev table’s useful chemical elements. These include potassium, sodium, manganese, aluminum, iron, copper, calcium, and vitamins A, B, E, and C!  They really are a power house and I wish I had of thought of doing this years ago.

Spirulina is proven to have many health benefits. It’s rich in many nutrients, boasts powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  It may lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, have anti-cancer properties, reduce blood pressure.

Anyone suffering from allergic rhinitis could benefit from throwing these into their water.  One study found that spirulina was more effective than cetirizine, an antihistamine used to treat allergies, for improving symptoms of allergic rhinitis and decreasing inflammation.

I could go on.  You can head over to Healthline if you want to read a bit more about each of these benefits and more:  Healthline – Proven Benefits of Spirulina

I help this idea benefits many others!  Love yourself and feel good.  Spend some time with the flowers.  Get some fresh air. 💛

Dandelion Petal Ice Cubes

A so simple but powerful addition to your diet.
Prep Time 20 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 Blender

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Dandelion Petals
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Gather your dandelion heads. Approximately 40-60. Don't worry it doesn't take long. Alternatively, you could harvest the petals as you go until you have a quarter cup.
  • I don't wash mine. But you can wash yours if desired.
  • Add the petals and 4 cups of water to the blender.
  • Blend on high for a minute or two until well blended.
  • Strain if desired. I don't. Most of the foam with remain on top when pouring into the ice cube tray molds, and then can be discarded. But if you are particular about sediment and texture you may want to.
  • Pour into trays and freeze!
  • Throw one into your drink once a day and reap the benefits of this simple recipe.

  • 1/2 tsp spirulina
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Mix the spirulina and water together in the blender.
  • Pour into your ice cube trays, and freeze.

Notes

It's simple to adjust the amount of spirulina to your liking.  I didn't want to go any heavier to start.
At this concentration, even my spirulina hating, 10 year old daughter likes them in her water!
