Made with black, red, and burgundy Bernat acrylic yarn, the colors meld together to create the lovely plaid pattern. A wood toggle is used in place of an ordinary button for the fastener on the collar which adds a sophisticated feel.
Bernat acrylic yarns are affordable, durable and still soft. Some ‘value’ brands can get pretty unpleasant in texture, but I have found Bernat yarns to have the best balance of value and quality. They have earned a high rank over the years in my books.
Being an acrylic yarn it stands up well in a regular wash, another bonus for an already busy mom or dad.
Its my favorite bib to look at, and use. One might think plaid is just for lumberjacks, but they would have to change their minds after seeing this bib in action.
The Stitches
This pattern uses the half-double crochet and double crochet stitches.
The plaid stitch isn’t complicated and is quite pleasant to do once you’ve gotten the hang of it. It is really more of a pattern than a stitch. You simply alternate between colors and rows. At the end of this pattern there are some helpful pictures and instructions that show how to color change, and how to arrange your yarn to prevent it from getting tangled.
The pattern also contains a link to the lovely, Whistle & Ivy’s, U-Tube tutorial on the plaid stitch. Bethany does a great job walking you through.
The Pattern
You may have noticed this pattern doesn’t have a star review. I won’t star review my own patterns. That’s your job! This is a written pattern. It includes some helpful tips on making color changes and keeping your yarn from getting tangled.
I always try to provide clear written instruction to make your crochet experience everything it should be. Pleasant, rewarding and fun.
Time Commitment
If you’re in a pinch for time, a bib is a great choice. Clearly needing minimal time invested, depending on your skill level you could easily make up one or more in a day.
Final Thoughts
This is my favorite bib to look at and use. The appearance is clearly lovely, the pattern is fun to crochet, and the end product is practical, durable, and comfortable. The pocket on the bib will rescue you from any runny baby cereals, leaky sippy cups, or messy finger foods. You can’t go wrong…
