This has been one of my favorite yarns to work with over the past few years for a few reasons. First of all, who can resist a soft fluffy super bulky yarn? Secondly, it is a super bulky yarn and I have 5 kids… so fast is very desirable! So many have busy schedules now, it’s nice to be able to finish a quick fun project now and again.
The Stitches
Very basic, this pattern uses the single, half-double, and double crochet stitches. First you create the neckpiece, then work on the poncho’s body, followed by the hood, edging and pocket.
The Pattern
You start this pattern by creating the neck piece in rows. You then join the neckpiece together and start crocheting in the round for the body of the poncho. The hood is crocheted next. Then the pink edging and pocket are added.
Not forgetting the stylish tassels! There is visual and written instruction on how to create those. I also try to include photos when I think something may need better clarification.
Time Commitment
This poncho took me a couple weeks working on and off on it to finish. It’s actually quite large when you lay it out. It’s a kin to making a small blanket. Of course this nice thick yarn works up quickly and some may zip through, especially if they have hours on end to crochet, but this project will take longer than the average hat or accessory.
Finished Product
Of course this is my own pattern so I will not give it a star review, that is your job.
Overall I was quite happy with this design. I think the pink is especially eye catching and the tassels add such a fun element. The kids enjoyed wearing them, and appreciated the armholes so they could do as they pleased in their seats and otherwise. And when their little hands did get cold they had the nice warm pocket to dive in to.
Car seat ponchos have become quite popular because of the safety risks that have been presented with wearing bulky winter coats. Problem solved!
I would love to know what you think!
