Floating Turtles and Turtle Pond Craft

turtle craft, spring craft

These turtles are adorable and SO MUCH FUN!

All you need is some everyday craft supplies for the turtles and an under the bed storage bin or other small pool that holds water for your pond.  Add some rocks and a small log to decorate and voila!  I was amazed at how great it looked.  And what child doesn’t love turtles and have a blast playing in the water?

Materials you’ll need for the turtles:

  • One large and one small Styrofoam ball – One for the head and one for the body (You can use different sizes to make large and small turtles)
  • Green craft foam sheet for the legs and tail
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • Toothpick
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Googly eyes if desired
  • Scissors
  • Permanent marker (optional)

Step 1:  Cut the large Styrofoam ball for the body in half. I do it with a large bread knife.  It’s a bit messy, but worth it.

Step 2:  Attach the head with a toothpick and some glue.

Step 3:  Have some fun painting and decorating your turtles!  We used craft acrylics for paint.

Step 4:  Once your turtle is completely dry, you can glue on they eyes, legs, and tail with the glue gun. Draw on any designs you would like.  I used a pencil crayon to draw on the shell design and then traced it with permanent marker.

Step 5:  Set up your turtle pond and go have a blast!
