Crochet Pineapple Cosmetic Bag

Store anything you like in this adorable, fun bag.

Originally I was going to make a hand bag, but as I progressed the size likened better to a cosmetic bag.  Either way, I love it!   The pineapples are so cute.

What do you think, would it make a cute hand bag as well?  I also thought about making a baby blanket set…

Stitches

I use US terminology.

The bag is made using a single crochet stitch.  The little pineapples are made with a special single crochet stitch.  I provide instructions for the special stitch below.

This pattern is crocheted in the round, joining with a slip stitch at the end of each round.  I would like to make it again using a continuous round, as I don’t like the look of joins anymore.  If I do I will be sure to post that as well, as the position of the pineapples would change considerably.

Bag Dimensions

The finished bag measured a little over 10″ wide and a little under 7″ when completed.

Crochet Pineapple Bag

A Cute Little Crochet Design

By:  Alicia Cromwell

Materials:

  • Craft Value yarn in White
  • Craft Value yarn in a Bright Yellow
  • Green Embroidery Thread 703
  • Darning needles
  • Scissors
  • 3.5mm crochet hook – or whatever hook you’re most comfortable with.  I use a 3.5 as my tension is on the looser side and I wanted a tight stitch.
  • 12″ Zipper

**** Special puff stitch  to make the pineapples ****

*YO, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop.*  Repeat * to * for a total of 4 times.  YO, and pull through all the loops on the hook.

Notes:

  • I always make my first stitch in the same space as the chain. I don’t count the ch as a stitch.

  • When changing colors to make the pineapples, you want to finish the last stitch with the color you’re changing to.  So when you see “puff stitch”, the single crochet you just finished, needs to be completed with yellow.   So you’ll complete your single crochet like this:  Insert hook through the next stitch, yo, pull up loop (two loops on the hook), YO WITH YELLOW, complete the single crochet with yellow. Then you’re ready to make your puff stitch.

Let’s get started!

Add your pineapple leaves

Cut strands of green embroidery thread about 8-10 inches long to create the pineapple leaves.

Start from the inside of the bag.  Bring the needle and thread to the outside of the bag and back in again to make the first leaf.  Make the second leaf in the middle, a bit longer than the others.  Make 3 leaves total.  Knot and weave in the ends into the pineapple, and trim any exposed ends.

Loop

Tie off and fasten to the bag.

Sew in your zipper, and you’re finished!

I hope you love your little pouch as much as I do :).
