Skip Counting Songs 

 

Skip counting is an extremely valuable tool for children to learn multiplication with. If they can’t remember the fact, they can skip count their way to the answer. 

There are a ton of fun songs on YouTube to help your child learn each set and I’ve linked one of each for you here!  My favorites ones are those that are done to classic nursery rhymes.  The songs are so familiar already so we’ll profit off of that, and just build onto those already carved pathways.  Music is a wonderful tool to learn with.

Minimal prep.  Efficient.  Re-usable.    

 

 

These would be great in the classroom, homeschool, or perhaps you’re just a parent who is looking for an easy, effective way to help your child master their multiplication facts to help them do better at school. 

 

Mastering these facts can requires ALOT of repetition for some children.  Printing out consumable drills is so costly and wasteful.  Ink is so expensive!  Laminating allows for constant repetition without the waste of disposable sheets.    Though I always prefer good old paper and a pencil… for this application, dry erase is the perfect choice.  The spaces are large enough that using a fat marker – works – and it provides that daily drilling that is so effective at cementing all those equations into their little minds.      

 

 

 

 

 

 

Printing the Packet

I printed one fact family per sheet, then placed two sheets back to back and laminated them together. I chose to do it this way because I wanted it to look crisp and clear.  I didn’t want any of the facts from the opposite side showing through. 

Once laminated, hole punch a corner and fasten with whatever you have.  I would have preferred using a carabiner, or key ring, but temporarily will be using a hair elastic because I didn’t have either of those around…  It works.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

How to Use the Packets:

Start off by practicing one of the fun skip counting songs and then time your child for 5-10 minutes to see how many facts they can complete in the packet.

Mark where the child finished, and the next day see if they can beat their record. 

The packet has 2 sets of facts.  The first set goes in order. The second set randomizes the questions. 

Once they start to show improvement and mastery with the first packet, start to change the order of the sheets to challenge them further.

Once your student has mastered the ordered facts, start drilling with the pages that have randomized facts.

Multiplication Flowers

I did this lapbook with my son when he was learning his times tables. Lot’s of good old cutting and pasting! Good times. 

 

 

 

 

There is a great little video on PBS Parents You Tube Channel I’ve linked just below that demonstrates how your child can use their 10 fingers to find any answer to the nine’s time table!  It’s so cool. My daughter uses it all the time.
