For this balaclava you will use two-strands of yarn together. But don’t worry. I don’t find these yarns split easily at all, so it’s not by any means an annoyance. It does work up fast mind you because of the thickness. Another bonus if you love fast, easy and cute crochet projects.
It’s worked in the round. Then in rows at the bottom to create a split neck piece which prevents any uncomfortable bunching.
The magic circle technique is used. If you haven’t learned this technique, DO IT! It is the easiest thing and you will thank yourself.
Final Thoughts
These hats are the BEST cold weather gear. Be that awesome crochet mom who makes amazing hats for her local families. I have gotten so many compliments about these hats, and it comforting knowing my kids are warm and protected from the elements.
They tuck right into the jackets keeping unwanted snow and chill out. When it’s really cold, they can pull it up over their nose and mouth for extra warmth. The bottom is split at the sides, so there isn’t any uncomfortable bunching around the neck. These are my go to hats when it’s really frigid, and the kids love them!
Even if you don’t want to make a fox, the simple balaclava pattern is super practical and looks great in camouflage and different colors. Or maybe with a fur pom-pom on top!
